Greece: Folegandros

On our way to Folegandros from Pireas

We were lucky to find this little cute hotel for half the price the others were charging!

the effort payed off

This was the island`s busiest place while we were there. Apparently there were some birthday parties going on and family from all over Greece were over for the weekend.

Having some Retsina, a white wine that has been made for at least 2000 years in Greece. Its unique flavor is said to have originated from the practice of sealing wine vessels. Before the invention of impermeable glass bottles, oxygen caused many wines to spoil within the year. Pine resin helped keep air out, while at the same time infusing the wine with resin aroma.

I really loved this view of the sunset reflection on the pool and the lit walls of the hotel. Unfortunately, back then I did not have my DSLR and I did the best I could with my humble camera. LOL

These pictures were taken while waiting for the ferry to take us to Santorini. This was the last day with ferries booked to take people to other islands since it can get quite dangerous because of the storms and agitated seas, which have wrecked many ships before. The ferry, rather the ship, arrived 3 hours late and people were starting to get really worried that they were going to bget stranded on this little island. We only found out a bit later.

Happy to be on the ship and no longer waiting and to know that they had finally found a replacement. The ship that was sent to pick us tourists up (I think there were only 8 of us) was a centenarian which was completely tilted to the right which made the trip quite frightening since we could only walk on one side of the ship holding on tightly to the rails. At least the sunset was breathtaking and made the wait worth it.
